Fayette County Station 42

So far for the Summer of 2008 the WTVFC has attended three parades and have come home with three trophies. The WTVFC members have attended the Scottdale VFD Parade, Dawson VFD Parade and the Mt. Pleasant Summer Fest Parade. All three parades we attended with our Seagrave Heavy Rescue with Marion Chasis and have won Best Appearing Heavy Rescue in all three. We look forward to attending the rest of the parades that we have been invited to and hopefully continuing our long streak of winning which has been going on since 1998. The one parade that we guarantee we won't win is our annual parade which will be Friday June 20,2008 line up will be 1800 hours and the parade will commence at 1900 hours, everyone is welcome and urged to attend. On Friday April 4,2008 at approx 1436 hours Station 42 was dispatched for a reported Structure Fire on Fayette Ave. Truck 42 responded with six volunteers, Chief 80 from Westmoreland County who was mutual aid on this alarm arrived on scene and confirmed working fire with heavy fire showing from the delta side of the structure. Upon Truck 42’s arrival 42 Assist Chief established command while 42 2nd Assist Chief, 42 2nd Captain, and a 42 Firefighter grabbed a 1 3/4 line and made entry. Engine 42 arrived on scene and went to the roof for ventilation. By this time the fire was knocked down by the initial attack crew. Station 4 Lower Belle Vernon arrived on scene and grabbed another 1 3/4 line to check for extension and for wet down. Westmoreland County Stations 105 and 80 provided ventilation via positive pressure fans. Station 17 Fayette City assisted with salvage and overhaul. During this incident Westmoreland County Station 81-2 Hilltop was RIT and was set up on the Delta side of the structure. 42 2nd Assistant Chief did sustained minor steam burns to his left hand and the left side of his face, but on a lighter note. Station 42 would like to congratulate Kevin Daniel Opat for his first, first due working fire. He has a few working fires under his belt, but this was his first due one, and first time on the initial attack line. Even though he did do a good job, he did pull a ladder 49 stunt and FORGOT HIS HELMET!! All n' all it looks like this was just his first one of many in a long successful career. All 42 units cleared the scene at approx 1630 hours.

On Monday March 17,2008 at approx 1140 hours Stations 11,10,32,14, RIT 7, Tanker 42, and Westmoreland Station 58 was dispatched to 118 Rimel Rd for a report of a house fire. Tanker and Squad 42 responded with seven volunteers. 11 Engine arrived on scene to find a working fire with fire on the First floor and heavy fire and smoke showing from the Second floor. While Tanker and Squad 42 was en route Engine 42 was resquested due to a lack of man power, which Engine 42 responded with five volunteers. Upon the Tanker’s arrival they stood by since command was able to secure a water supply from a hydrant that was located by the entrance of the long drive way leading to the residence, which 10 Engine hit and relayed pumped to Engine 11 due to apparatus access and the long lay. Squad 42’s crew split up as Chief 42 assisted Chief 11 with command, 42 2nd Captain took one firefighter to the roof to make two ventilation cuts, and 42 Captain took one firefighter to the Delta side to the porch roof for fire suppresion and try to make entry to the second divison since the stairwell to the second divison burned away and collapsed inside the building. 42 Captain was able to make entry via a window and started to pull the ceiling and walls since the bulk of the fire on that divsion was extinguished from the exterior. At this point Engine 42’s crew arrived and also was able to gain access to the second division via ground ladder on the alpha side. There was extensive salvage and overhaul due to this being an old log cabin covered by modern day building supplies which was not discovered untill crews were able to gain entry and start pulling the ceilings and walls. Station 42 would like to thank Westmoreland Station 80 for standing by in our station while 42 units operated on scene, which all 42 units operated on scene untill 1536 hours. On March 3,2008 at approx 2005 hours Station 42 was dispatched to Route 906 in Naomi for a report of a vehicle accident. With in one minute Rescue 42 responded with five volunteers. Southwest Regional PD arrived on scene to find a two vehicle accident both vehicles not drivable and with one child injured. One vehicle hit large rock in roadway and a second vehicle hit the rock and rear ended the first vehicle. Station 4 (Lower Belle Vernon) was requested to shut down the roadway at Jackson's Accounting and Route 906. Rescue 42's crew cleaned up debris at this time Medic 507 requested for a helicopter to fly the child. Rescue 42 cleared the scene and went to the helipad to land Stat 5. Stat 5 transported the child to Childrens Hospital and all 42 units cleared the incident at 2121 hours.

On March 2,2008 at approx 0500 hours Station 42 was dispatched to assist West Leisenring for a working Commercial Fire with Tanker and Squad. Both peices responded with a total of five volunteers. Upon arrival Tanker 42 assisted with tanker shuttles as Squad 42's crew assisted with fire supression and extensive salvage and overhaul due to the size of the large building. All 42 units operated on scene until approx 0930 hours. Their was a five man crew back in station to handle all other emergencies in the township.

HEROES SUPPORTING HEROS
The purpose of this project is to give support to the men and women serving in the armed forces stationed overseas in combat areas. In particular, the men and women that do not receive mail and packages from home for one reason or another.
We are asking for YOUR help to help us support our troops overseas.
We are asking for donations of any of the following:
* Care packages- Soap, Shampoo, Toothpaste, Tooth brushes, etc
* Clothing, T Shirts, Boxers, Underwear, Blue Jeans, etc ( must be washed and clean before donating)
* Beanie Babies- The soldiers are giving the Beanie Babies to the children in Iraq.
* Canned food- Please no perishable or home made items ( soldiers could possibly be allergic to some ingrediants).
THIS IS ABOUT SUPPORT, NOT JUST STUFF!
A letter, from you, your children, the kids at church or school, is the Best thing to send.

Feb 8, 2008
On February 8, 2008 at approx 1146 hours Truck 42 was requested to assist Station 19 Grindstone with a reported house on fire unknown entrapment. Firefighter from Station 5 North Side Brownsville arrived on scene and confirmed working structure fire, with heavy smoke and fire showing and unknown if home owners are still inside. Truck 42 responded with 6 volunteers. Chief 19 arrived on scene and determined that the home owners were not at home and advised all in coming units of negative entrapment. Upon Truck 42's arrival the truck was set up for possible master stream ops. Chief 17 and a 42 firefighter went up to vent the roof while other 42 personal assisted crews from 17 (Fayette City) and 32 (Perryopolis) with fire suppression in the second floor and attic area. 5, 6 and 19 personal provided fire suppression on the first floor. All 42 units operated on scene untill 1421 hours. Quint 80 North Belle Vernon Westmoreland County helped filled the station. Also we were able to have another crew of 6 volunteers in station. Thanks to the members of Station 80 for standing by in our station.

On January 30, 2008 at approx 1818 hours as 17 and 42 units were clearing a search detail in Washington Township, Station 17 Fayette City got hit out for a report of a structure fire at 124 High St. Engine 17 arrived on scene with heavy smoke and fire showing from the exterior. Truck 42 responded with five volunteers upon arriving on scene the truck was set up for venting the roof and a crew went up to vent and another crew made entry to assist with fire suppresion. The initial arriving crews made a quick knockdown of the fire. Engine 42 responded with six volunteers and upon arriving they assisited with salvage and overhaul. All 42 units cleared the scene at 2118 hours to wrap up seven calls in two days to end out the month of January.

The Washington Township VFC would like to welcome back our 2nd Lt. and also a member of our executive board in our financial department, Jeff Keffer. He attended this month's meeting and advised all of us that he will be able to start coming around more. It didn't take him long to get back into the swing of things because two days later he responded to a wreck we had with a vehicle into a utility pole with facial injuries on Connesllville St. We would all like to let him know that we are glad that he is back and hope to see more of him.
